Matched Betting

Combining sportsbook promos like bonus bets and odds boosts with opposing wagers to lock in guaranteed profit at minimal risk.

Matched betting exploits sportsbook promotions—bonus bets, deposit matches, odds boosts—by placing offsetting wagers on both sides of an event to secure a profit no matter the result. It needs no winner prediction and no handicapping skill. The promotion is the source of value; simple math converts it to cash at minimal risk.

The method uses two bets: a qualifying bet at one book to trigger the offer, and a hedge bet at a second book on the opposite outcome. Done right, losses on one side cancel wins on the other, and the promo value is what you keep. Target events with tight margins between opposing odds so hedging costs less and you retain more of the promo value.

Example

A book runs a “Bet $50, Get $50 in Bonus Bets” promo. You place a $50 qualifying bet on Team A at -110 and at the same time bet $50 on Team B at another book at +105. Either way, your net loss on the qualifying bets is small (a few dollars from the vig on both sides). You then collect the $50 bonus bet. Place it on an outcome at +100 at the first book and hedge it at the second. Since bonus bets return only profit (not the stake), a $50 bonus bet at +100 yields $50 profit if it wins. After hedging, you lock in roughly $20 to $25 in guaranteed profit, depending on the hedge odds.

Key Points

  • Low risk, not no risk: Calculation mistakes, misread promo terms, or a late hedge bet can cause unintended losses.
  • Dependent on promotions: Profit tracks the available offers. As books cut promo spending, opportunities shrink.
  • Account restrictions are common: Books may limit or close accounts that work promos without placing regular recreational bets.
  • Requires careful attention to terms: Each promo sets conditions—minimum odds, rollover, expiration. Miss one and the bonus can void.
  • Legal and widely practiced: Matched betting breaks no laws, but it may breach a book’s terms of service, which can trigger account limits.
