Double Chance

A bet covering two of three soccer outcomes (home/draw, away/draw, home/away) for lower risk and lower odds.

A double chance bet covers two of the three possible outcomes in a soccer match with one wager. Standard three-way soccer betting lets you back the home win, the away win, or the draw. Double chance combines two of those into a single pick: home or draw (1X), away or draw (X2), or home or away (12). Covering two outcomes lifts your win probability but cuts your odds in return.

Double chance suits bettors who favor one side but want cover against the draw, which lands in roughly 25 to 30 percent of matches. Instead of putting the whole stake on one result, the format gives conservative bettors or uncertain games a safety net.

The trade-off is plain: a higher win chance means a much lower payout than a straight three-way bet. The odds reflect the combined probability of the two covered results. In heavily lopsided games, the home or draw option can carry very short odds with minimal profit.

Example

Manchester United hosts a mid-table side. Three-way odds are: Manchester United -130, the draw +240, the away team +400. You’re fairly sure United wins but want cover against a draw. You stake $100 on “Home or Draw” (1X) at -300. If United wins or it ends in a draw, you win. Your $100 returns $33.33 in profit. Only an outright away win loses your $100 stake. You traded higher upside for a much higher chance of winning.

Key Points

  • Covers two of three outcomes: Double chance merges two results into one wager, such as home/draw, away/draw, or home/away.
  • Lower odds, higher win probability: Covering two outcomes cuts the odds well below a standard three-way bet.
  • Cover against the draw: The most common use is backing a team while hedging the frequent soccer draw.
  • Mainly a soccer market: Double chance is offered almost only for soccer, given the three-way nature of match results.
  • Good for cautious bettors: It fits bettors who want less risk and accept smaller returns for steadier results.
